Indian Mayors’ Study Tour to France, 26 September- 4 October 2008

IHCNF initiated a study tour to France for mayors and administrators of its Indian member cities in September 2008 with participation from member cities of Ahmedabad, Burhanpur, Indore, Gwalior, Maheshwar, Pondicherry, Ujjain, and Srinagar. The group of Indian officials was accompanied by French and Indian experts and the Director of UNESCO New Delhi office, Ms. Minja Yang. The event was jointly organized by UNESCO and the French Historic Cities Association (ANVPAH) and supported by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), as well as the Government of France and a number of French local authorities.

Mayor’s Study Tour to France Date: 28 September – 5 October 2010

Around 30 representatives from the historic cities of Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan accompanied by representatives from the Union Ministry of Urban Development visited France on a study tour. Besançon, Chinon, Lorient, Rennes, and Strasbourg hosted the representatives and the initiative was undertaken to share best practices in the field of heritage focused and integrated sustainable urban development.

Nomination of Bidar in the World Monument Fund Watch List 2013-14, 8 October 2013

The historic city of Bidar was included in the World Monuments Watch 2013-2014. The Watch under the auspices of World Monuments Fund (WMF) is intended to call international attention towards the challenges facing cultural heritage sites around the world, and thus protect them from the impact of social, political and economic changes. IHCNF made the application for its nomination keeping in mind its long-term interest in preserving the cultural heritage of Bidar city and its surroundings. With the endorsement of the Government of Karnataka, IHCN-F has also been recording and documenting the various tangible and intangible heritage properties of the city for the past 5 years. IHCNF at the Dasara Exhibition at Mysore,5-15 October 2013

As part of its mandate to promote heritage preservation of historic Indian cities and knowledge dissemination and awareness building programme, IHCNF successfully put up a stall at the Dasara Exhibition 2013 in Mysore. The activities of IHCNF across four states – Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (Pune) were highlighted through various panels and screening of documentaries during these ten days.

Heritage Walk, Bidar, 1 November 2013

In a big leap forward towards bringing heritage awareness, IHCNF identified and planned two Heritage Walk routes in the historic city of Bidar. The District Administration of Bidar District, Karnataka, launched the First Heritage Walk at Bidar with around 80 persons from different backgrounds participating in it. The walk was conducted by experts from IHCNF, including Mr. Debashish Nayak and Mr. Ravindra Gundu Rao.
Student Competition
 IHCN organized a Student Competition 2013 in conjunction with the fourth IHCNF biennial conference. This was co-sponsored by MMCF and UNESCO. The IHCN Student Competition challenged participants to propose innovative ideasconcerning the management of an urban historic area to serve the evolving needs of the local population and boost the economic development of the city. 338 institutions of architecture education were asked to galvanize students to participate in teams of no more than five plus a faculty member facilitator. Participants presented their revitalization plan using five design panels accompanied by a written Revitalization Plan Report. The Sinhgad College of Architecture, Pune who studied the “Phaltan Gaothan Area, Phaltan” was selected as the best entry and received the first prize of amount Rs 50,000.

IHCNF at World Urban Forum 7 (WUF 7), Medellin, Columbia, 5-11 April 2014

Dr. Shikha Jain, Trustee, IHCNF and Ms. Minja Yang, Advisor, IHCNF were invited by the Ministry of Culture, France and supported by UNESCO, Paris as part of the bilateral cooperation programme between ANVPAH and IHCNF. The delegation made presentations at the Heritage Session during the Networking Event at WUF 7. This was followed by the inauguration of an exhibition organized by the Ministry of Culture, France wherein panels on ‘Heritage Based Development for Udaipur’ prepared through the Udaipur- Strasbourg partnership by French and Indian institutions were placed on display.

Go UNESCO Heritage run at Badami and Bidar

IHCN and Genesco organized a Heritage Marathons in Badami and Bidar in 2015. The event aimed at creating awareness on the protection of historical monuments in these two cities. The marathon was held in phases. Nearly 150 participants from across South India registered for the event. An exhibition of historical monuments in Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts was also held.

IHCNF got registered as a Trust on 27th March 2009 establishing it as an independent Indian organization. Its secretariat was initially set up in Mysore, Karnataka with the support of Government of Karnataka.
